Vegan Langar Wali Dal Recipe

Ingredients –

  1. Urad Dal – washed and soaked overnight – 1 cup
  2. Chana Dal – washed and soaked overnight – 1/3 cup
  3. Onion – finely chopped – 2
  4. Tomato – finely chopped – 1
  5. Hing powder – ½ Tsp
  6. Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp
  7. Red Chili powder – 1 Tsp
  8. Coriander powder – 1 Tsp
  9. Bay leaf – 1
  10. Cinnamon stick – ½ inch
  11. Black Cardamom – 1
  12. Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
  13. Ginger – Garlic paste – 1 TBSP
  14. Vegetable oil – 1 TBSP
  15. Water – 3 cups
  16. Salt to taste

Method –

  1. In a pressure cooker, add soaked urad dal , chana dal , hing powder , turmeric powder , red chili powder , baf leaf , cinnamon stick , black cardamom , water . Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Heat a pot over medium heat , once hot add vegetable oil , cumin seeds , hing powder , Ginger – Garlic paste and saute for a minute or two. Add onions and saute till they turn translucent.
  3. Add turmeric powder , red chili powder , coriander powder and mix well. Add chopped tomatoes and salt to taste . Mix well. Add ⅓ cup water and mix well.Cover and cook for 5- 7 minutes.
  4. Add cooked dal and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with roti and rice.
