Ingredients: For Panchmel Dal

  1. Mix dal / alternatively take masoor dal , moong dal, urad dal , tur dal , channa dal in equal portions – 2 cups
  2. 1 finely chopped tomato
  3. Hing / Asafoetida – 1/2 Tsp
  4. Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp
  5. Cumin seeds – 1 Tbsp
  6. Cumin – Coriander powder – 1 TSP
  7. Garam masala – 1 Tsp
  8. Red chilli powder – 1 Tsp
  9. Vegetable oil – 1 Tbsp
  10. salt to taste
  11. water to adjust consistency.

How to Make Panchmel Dal Step-by-Step Instructions

  1.  Wash the dal thoroughly , add 1/4 tsp hing powder , turmeric powder , chopped tomato , 2 cups water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
  2.  For Tampering heat a pan on medium heat. Add oil. Once hot add cumin seeds , after they tamper add hing powder.
  3.  Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add water to adjust consistency.
  4.  Add the rest of masala’s , salt and get a nice boil.
  5.  Garnish with finely chopped cilantro.
  6.  Serve with hot roti’s or rice.
