Varan-Bhat - Batata Bhaji

 Ingredients  - 

 

      Bhat - 

 

  1. Rice - Ambemohar / sona masoori - ½ cup

  2. Water  - 1 cup

 

   Varan - 

 

  1. Toor Dal - 1 cup 

  2. Turmeric - 1 Tsp

  3. Hing Powder - ¼ Tsp

  4. Water - 2 cups

  5. Jaggery -  ½ Tsp

  6. Salt to taste.

 

Batata Bhaji - 

 

  1. Potato - peeled and cut into cubes - 3-4

  2. Vegetable oil - 1 TBSP

  3. Cumin seeds - 2 Tsp

  4. Hing Powder - ¼ Tsp

  5. Turmeric Powder - 1 Tsp

  6. Red Chili Powder - 1 Tsp

  7. Salt to taste

Method - 

 

 Varan - 

 

  1. Wash the Toor Dal Thoroughly . Add 2 cups of water , turmeric powder , and hing powder. Pressure cook the dal on medium heat for 3 whistles. 

  2. Mix the dal well and add water to adjust consistency . Make sure there are no lumps . Add salt to taste and Jaggery. Bring to a nice boil.

 

Bhat - 

 

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly. Add 1 cup water and pressure cook on medium heat for 3 whistles.

 

Batata Bhaji - 

 

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes in cubes. Add salt and cook them with rice and dal.

  2. In a pan, heat oil on medium heat, add cumin seeds , and hing powder. Add the cooked potatoes.

  3. Add turmeric powder , red chili powder and salt to taste and Mix well. Saute for 3-4 minutes on low heat. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro .
