Ingredients - 
 

  1. Tondli - cut in length - 1 cup

  2.   Basmati rice - wash  - 1 cup

  3. Vegetable oil - 1 TBSP

  4. Mustard seeds / Mohri - 1 Tsp

  5. Cumin seeds / Jeera - 1 TSP

  6. Asafetida powder / HIng - ¼ Tsp

  7. Curry leaves  - 4-5 

  8. Bay leaf - 1

  9.  Cinnamon sticks - 1 inch - 1 

  10. Ginger paste -  1 TBSP

  11. Turmeric powder / Haldi - 1 Tsp

  12. Red chilli powder - 1 Tsp

  13. Goda Masala - 2 TBSP

  14. Water - warm -  2 cups

  15. Salt to taste

Method

 

  1. Wash the rice and keep aside. No need to soak it beforehand.

  2. In a pot , heat vegetable oil. Once hot , add Mustard seeds. When seeds pop-up , add cumin seeds and asafetida powder. Add Bay leaf and cinnamon stick. 

  3. Add ginger paste and saute for a 1minute. Add cut tondli and Mix well. 

  4. Add turmeric powder ,  red chilli powder , goda masala and salt to taste. Mix well.

  5. Add rice and mix well. 

  6. Add 2 cups of warm water and mix well. Cover and cook for 10 minutes on medium heat. Afterwards lower the heat and simmer on low flame for 20 minutes.

  7. Garnish with freshly grated coconut and finely chopped cilantro.
