For Syrup:

  • Sugar – ¾ cup
  • Water – ½ cup
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • Saffron strands (optional)
  • For Gulab Jamun:
  • Bread slices – 6
  • Plain non-dairy milk – ¼ cup
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • Oil for deep frying (around 1 cup)

Method – Syrup:

  • Heat a pan on medium heat. Add water and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Let the mixture boil for a minute, creating a sticky syrup without the need for a string consistency.
  • Add cardamom powder and saffron for a fragrant touch. Mix quickly and turn off the heat.
  • Method – Gulab Jamun:
  • Cut off the sides of the bread slices and blend them into a powder.
  • Transfer the bread powder to a deep dish, add 1 tsp of oil, and mix well.
  • Gradually add non-dairy milk, kneading the mixture into a soft dough, similar to chapati dough consistency.
  • Form small, crack-free balls from the dough.
  • Heat oil for deep frying on medium heat. Fry the balls on low heat until they achieve a golden brown color, stirring to ensure even cooking.
  • While the balls are hot, add them to the hot sugar syrup. Mix quickly, cover, and let the balls soak in the syrup for a minimum of 2-3 hours.
