Ingredients: For Vegan Vadiche Sambar Recipe

For Vadi -

  1. Besan - 1 cup
  2. Vegetable oil - 1 Tsp
  3. Turmeric powder - 1/2 Tsp
  4. Red Chili powder - 1/2 Tsp
  5. Coriander-cumin seeds powder - 1 Tsp
  6. Hing powder - 1/4 Tsp
  7. Ginger-garlic paste - 1 Tsp
  8. Salt to taste.
  9. Water - 1/4 Cup

For Sambar -

  1. Vegetable oil - 1 Tsp
  2. Mustard seeds - 1 Tsp
  3. Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
  4. Hing powder - 1/2 Tsp
  5. Onion - finely chopped - 1
  6. Fried masala / Tala Masala - 1/2 cup

  8. Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
  9. Red chili powder - 1 Tsp
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Tamarind concentrate - 1 Tsp
  12. Jaggery - 1 Tsp
  13. Coconut milk - 1/4 cup
  14. Water - 1 cup
  15. Finely chopped cilantro for garnishing.

How to Make Homemade Vegan Vadiche Sambar Recipe Step-by-Step Instructions

For Vadi -

  1. In a pan heat oil. Add besan and roast till the besan starts releasing aroma.
  2. Let the besan cool down. Add turmeric powder , chili powder , coriander-cumin powder , hing powder , salt to taste and ginger-garlic paste. Mix well.
  3. Add water and mix well to form thick paste.
  4. Grease a steamer plate with oil. Add the besan mixture to the plate. Steam on medium flame for 15 minutes.
  5. Cool the vadi and cut into diamond shape.

For Sambar -

  1. In a pan add vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds , cumin seeds , hing powder and finely chopped coriander . Add finely chopped onion and saute till onion turns translucent .
  2. Add fried masala and mix well. Add turmeric powder , chili powder , salt to taste. Mix well and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add tamarind concentrate and jaggery and mix well.
  4. Add coconut milk and mix well.
  5. Add water . Bring to a nice boil.
  6. Add the besan vadi . Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and serve hot with roti or rice.
