Ingredients For Mango Rasam:

  • 1 Raw Mango, sliced into cubes
  • ¼ cup Toor Dal
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tsp Hing Powder
  • 1 tsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Mohri/Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Jeera/Cumin Seeds
  • 15-20 Curry Leaves
  • 1 Green Chili, slit into half
  • ½ inch Ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 Dry Red Whole Chilies
  • 2 tsp Rasam Masala
  • 2 tbsp Jaggery Powder
  • 4 cups Water
  • Salt to taste

Raw Mango Rasam Method:

  • In a pressure cooker pot, add washed toor dal, raw mango, turmeric powder, hing powder, and ½ cup water. Pressure cook on medium to low flame for 3 whistles.
  • Heat a pot or kadai over medium heat. Once hot, add oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and let them crackle. Add hing powder, green chilies, garlic, ginger, and curry leaves. Give a quick mix.
  • Add the cooked mango and dal. Mash it using a masher. Alternatively, you can purée the mango and dal and then add to tadka.
  • Add rasam masala, jaggery, salt, water, and mix well. Bring to a roaring boil. Lower the heat, cover, and let it boil for 5-7 minutes.
  • For the final tadka, heat another ½ tsp oil, add 2 red whole chilies, and curry leaves. Pour the tadka on hot rasam.
  • Serve with rice and your choice of side of papad or chips.
