Maharashtrian Pithla or Chickpea flour curry

Ingredients

 

Besan / Chickpea flour    - 1 cup

haldi / turmeric powder - 1 Tsp

Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp

Mohri / Black Mustard Seeds  - 1 TSP

Jerra / Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp

finely chopped onion - 1/2 cup

Finely chopped green chillies - 2

Oil -  1 TBSP

Water  - 4 cups

Salt to taste

Method

 

  1. Heat Pan , Add oil. After oil is hot add mustard seeds , once they clutter , add cumin seeds and hing.

  2. Add green chillies and saute .

  3. Add diced onion . Saute them till they turn translucent.

  4. Add the turmeric powder and mix well

  5. Add Water and mix it well. Get the water to nice boil.

  6. Add besan / chickpea flour . Stir continuously while adding besan. Make sure there are no lumps. Initially the mixture would be  fluid , but it will thicken up as the mixture cooks.

  7. Close the pan with lid and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
