Onion Uttapam

For Uttapam Batter - 

 

  1. Urad dal -  1 cup

  2. Idli Rice  -  2 cup

  3. Fenugreek Seeds - 2 TBSP

  4. Water to soak

  5. Salt to taste.

 

For Uttapam - 

 

  1. Onion - finely chopped - ½ 

  2. Green chilies - finely chopped - 2-3

  3. Freshly grated coconut.

  4. Cilantro - finely chopped.

  5. Vegetable oil

Method - 

 

For  Batter - 

 

  1. Wash idli rice and urad dal 2-3 times thoroughly with water. Add fenugreek seeds , and water to washed dal and rice. Soak overnight or 7-8 hours.

  2. Grind rice and dal into a smooth paste. Cover and keep in a warm place for 10-12 hours for fermenting. 

 

For Uttapam - 


 

  1. Take a small portion of batter. Add salt to taste and water to adjust the consistency. It should be flowing consistency like pancakes.

  2. Heat a Pan on medium flame. Once hot grease it with oil.

  3. Take a ladle full of batter and spread on a pan in circular motion to form a thin pancake.

  4. Add finely chopped onion , finely chopped green chilies , coconut and cilantro. Let it cook on medium heat for 3-4 minutes. Till the side turns brown.

  5. Sprinkle some oil and flip . Cook from the other side for a couple of minutes. .

  6. Serve hot with your choice of chutney or sambar.
