Ingredients -

 

  1. Urad Dal - washed and soaked overnight - 1 cup

  2. Chana Dal - washed and soaked overnight - 1/3 cup

  3. Onion - finely chopped - 2

  4. Tomato - finely chopped  - 1

  5. Hing powder - ½ Tsp

  6. Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp

  7. Red Chili powder - 1 Tsp

  8. Coriander powder - 1 Tsp 

  9. Bay leaf - 1

  10. Cinnamon stick - ½ inch 

  11. Black Cardamom - 1 

  12. Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp 

  13. Ginger - Garlic paste  - 1 TBSP 

  14. Vegetable oil - 1 TBSP 

  15. Water - 3 cups 

  16. Salt to taste

Method - 

 

  1. In a pressure cooker, add soaked urad dal , chana dal , hing powder ,  turmeric powder , red chili powder , baf leaf , cinnamon stick , black cardamom , water . Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles. 

  2. Heat a pot over medium heat , once hot add vegetable oil , cumin seeds , hing powder , Ginger - Garlic paste and saute for a minute or two. Add onions and saute till they turn translucent.

  3. Add turmeric powder , red chili powder , coriander powder and mix well. Add chopped tomatoes and salt to taste . Mix well. Add ⅓ cup water and mix well.Cover and cook for 5- 7 minutes.

  4. Add cooked dal and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  5. Serve hot with roti and rice.
