Ingredients For Kolhapuri Akkha Masoor Recipe

  1. Whole Masoor – sprouted – 1 cups
  2. Onion – finely chopped – 1
  3. Tomato – finely chopped – 1
  4. Vegetable oil – 1 TBSP
  5. Cinnamon stick – ½ inch
  6. Bay leaf – 1
  7. Mustard seeds – 1 TSP
  8. Cumin seeds – 1 TSP
  9. Hing powder – 1/4 Tsp
  10. Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp
  11. Red Chilli powder – 1 Tsp
  12. Kala Masala / Garam Masala – 1 TBSP
  13. Freshly grated coconut – ⅛ cup
  14. Garlic – 3-4 cloves
  15. Ginger – ½ inch
  16. Salt to taste.
  17. Water – 1 and ½ cups
  18. Cilantro – finely chopped for serving

Method

  1. Sprout the whole masoor .
  2. Grind freshly grated coconut , garlic and ginger to a smooth paste and keep aside.
  3. Heat a Pan on medium flame. Once hot add oil.
  4. Once the oil is hot add cinnamon stick and bay leaf. Add mustard seeds, once they splutter , add cumin seeds and hing powder.
  5. Add Onions and saute till they turn translucent.
  6. Add tomatoes and saute till they turn mushy.
  7. Add turmeric powder , chilli powder, goda masala , salt to taste. Mix well and saute for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add sprouted masoor. Mix well.
  9. Add the grinded coconut , garlic and ginger paste. Mix well.
  10. Add water to adjust consistency. Cover and let it cook till the lentils cook.
  11. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and serve hot with roti or rice.
