Jeera Varan / Cumin - Split Pigeon Pea curry
A perfect meal for a busy day . Be it a busy weekday night or busy weekend or just after travel . Makes a perfect meal to give you the warmth of home cooked food .

Tuvar Dal / Split pigeon pea - 2 cups
Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 Tbsp
Green chillies - 3-4 chopped in small pieces
Curry leaves -5-6
Sugar - ½ TSP
Vegetable oil - 1 Tbsp
salt to taste
water to adjust consistency.
1.Wash the dal thoroughly , add 1/4 tsp hing powder , turmeric powder , 2 cups water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
2.For Tampering heat a pan on medium heat. Add oil. Once hot add cumin seeds , after they tamper add hing powder , add chopped green chilies , curry leaves.
3.Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add water to adjust consistency.
4.Add the salt to taste , sugar and mix well.
5.Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and freshly grated coconut.
6. Serve with hot rice with a side of pickle and pappad.
