Dal Kanda

Ingredients -

 

  1. Chana Dal - 1 cup - Soaked 4-5 hours

  2. Onion finely chopped - 2

  3. Garlic - 3-4 cloves

  4. Curry leaves - 4-5

  5. Vegetable oil - 1 TBSP

  6. Mustard seeds - 1 TSP

  7. Cumin seeds - 1 TSP

  8. Hing powder - 1/4 Tsp

  9. Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp

  10. Red Chilli powder - 1 Tsp

  11. Garam Masala / Goda masala - 1 Tsp

  12. Dry Red chilies - 2 

  13. Water - 1 + ½ cup 

  14. Salt to taste.

  15. Cilantro - finely chopped for garnishing

Method -

 

  1. Heat a Pan on medium flame. Once hot add oil. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds. Once they splutter , add cumin seeds and hing powder.

  2. Add Onions and saute till they turn translucent. Add turmeric powder , chilli powder, goda masala , salt to taste. Mix well and saute for another 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add soaked chana Dal and mix well. Add water to adjust consistency. Cover and cook for 2 whistles  . Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and serve hot with roti or rice.
