Ingredients

 

Tuvar Dal / Split pigeon pea - 2 cups

Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp

Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp

Mustard seeds - 1 TSP

Cumin seeds -  1 Tbsp

Red chilli powder - 1 Tsp

Maharashtrian goda masala - 1 TSP

Tamarind paste - ½ TSP

Jaggery - 1 TBSP

Vegetable oil - 1 Tbsp

salt to taste

water to adjust consistency.

Method

 

  1. Wash the dal thoroughly , add 1/4 tsp hing powder , turmeric powder , 2 cups water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.

  2. For Tampering heat a pan on medium heat. Add oil. Once hot add mustard seeds , cumin seeds , after they tamper add hing powder.

  3. Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add water to adjust consistency.

  4. Add the rest of masalas , tamarind paste, jaggery, salt and get a nice boil.

  5. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro.

  6. Serve with hot rotis or rice.
