Flavorful Batata Kachrya – A Quick and Spicy Potato Delight

Batata Kachrya

Batata Kachrya, a beloved Indian potato dish, is a delightful combination of simplicity and bold flavors. This quick and easy recipe transforms humble potato cubes into a mouthwatering culinary masterpiece. Sautéed with aromatic spices, including mustard seeds, cumin, and a touch of hing (asafoetida), this dish bursts with rich flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

Ingredients For Batata Kachrya

  1. Potato – finely cubed – 4-5
  2. Onion – finely chopped – 1
  3. Vegetable oil – 1 TBSP
  4. Mustard seeds / mohri – 1 Tsp
  5. Cumin seeds / Jeera – 1 Tsp
  6. Hing powder – ¼ Tsp
  7. Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp
  8. Red chili powder – 1 Tsp
  9. Salt to taste.

Method

  1. Heat a pan on medium heat and add oil.
  2. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds. Once they splutter , add the cumin seeds and
  3. hing powder.
  4. Add finely chopped onions and saute well and cook till onions turn translucent .
  5. Add turmeric powder , red chilli powder , salt to taste and mix well.
  6. Add potatoes and mix well. Cover and cook for 7-8 minutes.
  7. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro. Serve hot with roti.
